2008 Nehemiah Project

Many of the boys of Goshen Valley Boys Ranch participated in the Nehemiah Project this week.  Reinhardt College was the home base for the week and all work was done within Cherokee County.

The vision of the Nehemiah Project is to foster a passion for godly service in the name of Jesus Christ.  By becoming the hands and feet of Christ, the youth experienced Jesus through direct service ministry.  In response to the awesome love of Jesus Christ in our lives, we are compelled to share and extend that love by serving others.

The Nehemiah Project was a 4-day event filled with daily worship, spiritual speakers and community service.  Three days of community service consisted of painting homes, re-roofing, and repair of porches and steps for elderly people in our community.

Each evening had awesome worship, inspirational speakers, and tons of fun.  It was an incredible experience for the youth!  The Nehemiah Project fosters the development of servants’ hearts, a love of work missions and a network of new friendships among local Christian youth groups.

Our Results:

  • Most importantly, the Goshen Valley Boys Ranch managed to operate at a capacity of over 95%.  This would rank us at or near the very top of all Child Caring Institutions in the State of Georgia. This result is based on the strength of our family and therapeutic models.
  • We have had record outcomes. We had 3 family reunifications, 2 adoptions, and 4 long-term foster placements in 2007.   We maintained our high standards as we turned over our child population by 50%.
  • We are graduating our boys. Two of our boys are looking forward to college and a third successfully completed his GED at Appalachian Technical College this spring. Our ranch wide GPA is at a record level.
  • We have successfully moved to a Medicaid provided therapeutic model.
  • Our staff has had no voluntary attrition in over a year.
  • We are establishing strong financial momentum. Our total annual revenues exceeded $1,000,000. We enjoyed record philanthropic outcome, raising over $250,000, while maximizing our state reimbursement. Our assets now exceed $4,000,000.
  • Our community profile continues to be heightened as we look to the Greater Atlanta area for growth opportunities.
  • We continue to have excellent State of Georgia Department of Human Resources audit outcomes. The Division of Family and Children Services Provider Relations recognized the Ranch as a top performing organization.
