As a foster care institution, we would like to thank all the organizations and individuals that have an impact on our foster care system at Goshen Valley Boys Ranch. During the past month we have had many visitors at the Ranch that support the children of the foster care system. We extend a deep felt thank-you to the following organizations and individuals for taking time to visit the Ranch. Also for advocating, mentoring, volunteering, and care giving to the young people in foster care: The Cherokee Stabilization and Assessment Center, First Baptist Church of Woodstock, Community Foundation of Metro Atlanta, Cherokee County Division of Family and Children Services executive and Catalyst for Care (Sally Rosser, Chairperson).
Foster care affects hundreds of thousands of children, families and society as a whole. Child welfare issues arise in families of every race, ethnicity, culture, and age group. Children and youth are placed in foster care when their parents (or guardians) are no longer able to ensure their essential well-being. These young people need stable, loving care until they can either safely reunite with their families or establish other lifelong relationships with a nurturing adult.
The magnitude of foster care as an issue in America is startling. With an estimated 12 million foster care alumni and 513,000 children and youth currently in out-of-home care, it is hard to ignore the impact of child abuse and neglect on our nation’s next generation. These links will help provide Facts about Foster Care on the national and state levels, as well as statistics about how foster care affects communities of color and educational outcomes for children.
